Annie Sloan French Sofa

One of Gaz’s most recent projects has been a little French sofa. 20130216-092244.jpg

It was covered in very old fashioned fabric, but we thought it would make a great shabby chic project!20130216-092300.jpg

Gaz started by stripping all the old fabric from the frame.20130216-092321.jpg

This is always a long process as every staple and nail needs to be removed.

Look how many pieces came off!

But he got there eventually!

Then we applied a couple of coats of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Old White – a trusted favourite!!

We agonised over the fabric for ages!  We couldn’t decide whether to go for a rustic linen or a pretty floral fabric.  In the end, the flowers won and we decided to go for a Cath Kidston-esque print! 20130216-092450.jpg

And here it is!

We lightly distressed the paintwork which brings out the detail and creates that ‘shabby chic’ look.1-P1070783

I just love the pretty legs…

In fact the whole frame is so elegant!

I’m really pleased with the fabric choice in the end. It’s so pretty and compliments the sofa really well.1-P1070777

This is such an unusual item.  We rarely come across French sofas like this and it was a pleasure to turn it into something pretty so it can be loved for many years more!1-P1070773

We’ll be sad to see this one go!
