Last Friday, I had the best girlie day at the Clifton Lido in Bristol.
For those who don’t know, the Lido is an open air swimming pool that was built in 1850. It was refurbished a few years ago and now has swanky spa facilities and a gorgeous cafe/restaurant.
The new owners did a spectacular job on the refurb – classy and modern but with a nod to the past. The pool is framed by sleek glass to the one side and quaint changing rooms on the other. Don’t you just love the striped curtains?!
The pool is heated but temperatures vary between 19 and 25 degrees depending on the temperature outside. In January, getting into the water takes some guts! The trick is to just go for it – get in as quick as possible and you’ll soon warm up after a few lengths. My mantra is Dory’s song from Finding Nemo (just keep swimming, just keep swimming…)
Any sensible person would have gone for a swim before using the heated facilities, but not us! We headed straight for the hot tub where we spent many hours putting the world to rights!
We then spent a good half an hour splashing about in the pool and felt very proud of ourselves!
Included in our ‘Indulgence’ package was a 2 course lunch with a glass of bubbles.
Dutchy opted for a mint and cucumber cooler instead of the bubbly.
We had gorgeous homemade bread whilst we waited for our first course.
My starter was a blood orange, buffalo mozzarella and oregano salad – fresh, light and to die for!
This was followed by an awesome mezze platter. Dips, salad and flatbread – my favourite kind of food!
Dutchy’s dessert looked amazing and I’m told it tasted pretty good too!
We also received a treatment each as part of our package. Grace and I went for hot stone massages which were amazing! Vicky had an exfoliation massage which sounded fabulous – they cover you in a scrub then massage in a moisturising oil afterwards! The Lido even offered a pregnancy massage for Dutchy.
Post massage, we had time to chill out in a gorgeous tea room with a pot of herbal tea – bliss!
