A gorgeous little chair

I was given this little chair to see whether I could give it a new lease of life. As you can see, it was covered in dirt and dust where it had been stored away for many years.  However, I knew that with a bit of TLC, the chair would make a gorgeous addition to someone’s home.

I started by removed the dusty old fabric from the seat. Fortunately the base beneath it was still in good condition and did not need replacing.

After giving the chair a good clean, I gave it two coats of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Old White.

The paint was finished with Annie Sloan’s clear wax and then distressed to create a shabby chic look. The distressing really brought out the detail of the carved woodwork.

In keeping with the chair’s rustic charm, I decided to use Laura Ashley’s Heligan fabric for the upholstery. This is a linen cotton mix which has a natural and organic feel to it.

And here is the finished chair:

My favourite part of the chair has to be its distressed back.

But I also love its cute little legs!

I think it will make a great little bedroom or bathroom chair and I can’t wait to find it a new home!
